The Samaritan Befrienders Hong Kong was established in 1960, formerly known as the Suicide Prevention Society, it was the first of its kind in Asia. Our organisation was registered as a society in Hong Kong in October 1963, and later renamed The Hong Kong Samaritans, and was converted to company registration in 1994. SBHK is a voluntary service organisation born and bred in Hong Kong and composed entirely of volunteers. The purpose is to extend a hand of sympathy to desperate and endangered people, provide support and appropriate emotional relief, and achieve the goal of helping others to help themselves. Our volunteer service is diversified, mainly including hotline, visits, face-to-face interviews, emails and online instant conversations. We use the above methods to solve emotional or inner troubles with help seekers.
